Paris gallery cancels screening after death of artist’s parents

Galerie Imane Farès in Paris has cancelled a screening of works by Ali Cherri, due to the death of the artist’s parents ‘caused by Israeli bombings in Beirut on November 26th’.

The Lebanese artist was due to present his short film The Watchman (2023), which focuses on the life of a young Turkish-Cypriot soldier guarding the border of the unrecognised Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

‘Due to the tragic death of the parents of artist Ali Cherri, caused by Israeli bombings in Beirut on November 26th, we regret to inform you that the screening of the short film The Watchman, originally scheduled for December 10th, is cancelled,’ wrote the gallery’s statement.

The gallery will remain closed until 3 December in support of Cherri and his family.

Cherri is also due to open How I Am Monument at Secession, Vienna on 6 December. At the time of writing, no announcement as been made.
