The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam will open its first satellite branch in Eindhoven, the museum has announced. ASML, the leading chip manufacturer based in nearby Veldhoven, is a founding partner of the project, alongside the Municipality of Eindhoven.
The museum will be located in a park along the Dommel River close to the city’s Central Station. Once open, it will display artworks from the Rijksmuseum’s collection ‘with a focus on creativity and craftsmanship’.
‘The Rijksmuseum in Eindhoven represents an important step in making the collection even more accessible in the south of the country’, said Taco Dibbits, director of the Rijksmuseum, in a statement. The museum ‘will be a valuable addition to the cultural landscape of Brabant and beyond, with art and history serving as a unifying force in our rapidly growing Brainport region’, added Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the mayor of Eindhoven.
The new museum is expected to open in six to eight years.
