Venus Lau to head Museum MACAN

MACAN, Indonesia’s first world-class museum dedicated to international modern and contemporary art, has announced today that Venus Lau is its new director. Lau comes to MACAN from Shanghai, where she worked as an independent writer and curator, and was the art strategic advisor for Modern (Meta) Media Group. She was also the artistic director at K11 Art Foundation, artistic director of OCT Contemporary Art Terminal in Shenzhen, and curator at Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing. She is also a widely published art writer who is a cofounder of LEAP magazine.

‘We are thrilled to welcome Venus Lau as the new Director of Museum MACAN’ said Fenessa Adikoesoemo, chairwoman of the MACAN Foundation, in a statement. ‘Her deep commitment to contemporary art in Asia, and dedication to fostering cultural engagement in the region align seamlessly with our institution’s focus on high-calibre exhibitions and art accessibility for our community. We believe that Venus will inspire both our museum team and audiences with her ideas, enhancing MACAN’s stalwart reputation as a key art institution in Southeast Asia.’ Lau took on the new position on 1 February 2024.
