Cuauhtémoc Medina to curate 2027 Bienal de Arte Paiz

Cuauhtémoc Medina has been appointed as curator of the 25th Bienal de Arte Paiz, which will take place in Guatemala City and Antigua Guatemala from November 2027 to February 2028, the Fundación Paiz has announced.

Medina is a Mexican art critic, curator and historian. He has been a researcher at the Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) since 1993. From 2002 to 2008, he served as the first associate curator of Latin American Art Collections at Tate Modern, London. From 2013 to 2024, he was the chief curator at the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), Mexico City. He has also curated several international exhibitions including Manifesta 9, Genk, Belgium, in 2012 and the 2018–19 Shanghai Biennale.

‘For half a century, it [the Bienal de Arte Paiz] has been a reference for art in the Central American region and, above all, has served Guatemalan audiences as a vehicle for contemporary thinking and sensibility’, Medina said in a statement.
