A Moscow art collective has had to abandon proposals for an illuminated art installation based on the Eye of Sauron from the JRR Tolkein books, after opposition from a spokesperson from the Russian Orthodox Church, The Guardian reports. Concern was expressed that the work represented the triumph of evil over good, which might be bad news for the city.
The installation, which was to sit on top of a Moscow building, was planned to coincide with the release of the final instalment of the film trilogy adaptation of Tolkein’s The Hobbit.
