Activist groups Artists for Workers and the Illuminator staged a light show on the facade of the Guggenheim Museum in New York, in a protest to draw attention to the museum’s workers.

Messages projected onto the museum on 28 September included ‘Seeking New Management’, ‘Trustees to Workers: Drop Dead’ and ‘Open for Exploitation’.

The action was intended to highlight the alleged exploitation of the museum’s staff in New York as well as the situation of workers in other Guggenheim locations such as Abu Dhabi.

Like many other museums across the US, the Guggenheim has attracted accusations of institutional racism and toxic workplace behaviour, in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests.

Earlier this month, current and former employees of the museum called for the resignation of director Richard Armstrong, chief operating officer Elizabeth Duggal and chief curator Nancy Spector.
