SP-Arte Brasília

With the growing importance of SP-Arte – another date in the increasingly busy calendar of international galleries – it was only a matter of time before the Brazilian art fair expanded. At SP-Arte Brasília, at least in its first edition, which opens 5 June, one will probably only hear Brazilian Portuguese spoken however, being a more domestic affair. That said, there are more than enough Brazilian collectors to sustain such a venture and accordingly the fair has scored some homegrown big hitters: Rio de Janeiro’s Anita Schwartz and São Paulo’s Baró Galeria, Casa Triângulo, Galeria Leme, Mendes Wood, Galeria Nara Roesler, Vermelho among them. For anyone oversees however, the big draw will be the excuse to visit Brazil’s capital and marvel at the genius of its designer and incomparable giant of architecture, Oscar Niemeyer.
