Yongwoo Lee, director of Shanghai Himalayas Museum, and Hans Ulrich Obrist, codirector of the Serpentine Galleries, London, have been named directors of the inaugural edition of the Shanghai Project. Conceived as an ‘ideas platform’, the Shanghai Project will feature exhibitions, public art installations, commissioned architectural structures, public programs, and an open call, to take place in the Shanghai Himalayas Center and various locations around Shanghai from 5 September – 13 November 2016. Entitled 2116, the theme of this first edition looks ahead to the twenty-second century and questions the prospect of a ‘sustainable future’.
