Hong Kong artist Trevor Yeung on his upcoming exhibition Courtyard of Attachments, a collateral event for La Biennale di Venezia, opening 20 April – 24 November 2024

In his exhibition Courtyard of Attachments, Hong Kong artist Trevor Yeung presents eight works inspired by his own personal experiences, as well as his observations of the relationships between humans and aquatic ecosystems. His conceptual and visual references include his father’s seafood restaurant, pet shops, feng shui arrangements and his childhood relationship with his pet fish. Primarily taking the form of fishless aquariums, Yeung’s latest works put notions of desire and power in stark dialogue with those of absence and attachment as a way of addressing the social systems that structure our lives. Courtyard of Attachments asks visitors to consider the emotional disconnection and power dynamics that characterise society today.

The exhibition is organised by Hong Kong’s museum of visual culture, M+, and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council for Hong Kong’s presence in Venice. An adapted version of Courtyard of Attachments will be shown at M+ in 2025.

Trevor Yeung: Courtyard of Attachments is on view at Campo della Tana, Castello 2126, 30122, Venice, Italy (in front of main entrance of Arsenale)20 April – 24 November 2024
